Default 52 Trunk light

Before I break it trying to take it apart, does anybody have some tips on opening up this light to replace the bulb? In the 52 Mercury trunk?

I stick a blade screw driver in between the base that holds the bulb and upper portion that has the lens in it (just below those clips that snap into the trunk) and twist. Might want put some penetrating oil first around the seam where it comes apart.

Yes, indeed the bulb snaps into the lens the same way the lens snaps into the trunk lid.
There may or may not be a 'mercury element' switch in the feed line to the bulb.
This shuts off the light when the trunk is in the down position and could also be defective.

My bulb is controlled by the headlight switch. When I pull the headlight switch out to the first position, the accessory/running lights are on, and the trunk light is also on, no mercury switch. Agree with putting some penetrating oil on the seam, let it set for awhile then work it lose.

Bottom line: No Mercury (switch) in the Mercury.

Thanks for the tips on this light. I was wondering too how the light was actuated as there is no switch visible anywhere in the trunk area.
