Default Starter Switch troubles

The starter switch on my 1931 Tudor needs to be overhauled or replaced (intermittent - difficult to activate). I'd like to purchase a good used original.
I'm not much on rebuilding but if the job is simple enough, well, just maybe. All inputs/advise welcomed.

The repro units can sometimes be very difficult to activate and can be very stiff.
If you can find s good original or older quality replacement unit (looks original) they are beat. It’s important the insulator at the stud and nit are good and properly installed or you will have a big time short.
Give Steve Becker at Bert’s model a a holler and maybe he had a good unit for you. Just tell him you prefer avoid original . Install yourself and you should be good. Ensure your battery cable is disconnected of course and Make sure the nut in top before he cable is installed is snug. It’s amazing how loose many are. I do service and restoration work on them for for folks and 7 out of 10 are loose.

All the best !

Take your old one apart. There is not much to it. Just make sure the hot parts can not be grounded. You may be able to fix it, or at least understand how it works. Don't be afraid to get in there and play with it.

Brattons sells all of the fiber parts except the big insulator that shields the part that contacts the starter terminal. Not much else to go wrong in them.

Took mine apart, cleaned it up, sanded the electrical contacts and reassembled. Easy stuff.
