Do you mean what holds the cover on the tire? I think there was some kind of spring that held it together at the bottom. I made up something from a worm clamp

... hmmph ...

I need to pull out my huKT on fonIX - wuRX 4 MEE text.

There is (was) a spring on the 1470 COVER ASSY. I cannot find a PN. I cannot believe it was serviced only on the 1470 replacement part.

Below is a photo of the cover and you will notice where the spring attached to the split ends. LARRYS T-BIRDS advertises the steel replacement cover. Maybe if you call, they will know where to obtain one.

Or if you don't have a 1000 point show car, you should be able to get a spring that will work from an ACE hardware, or do the trick that paul2748 mentioned in post #3.

OK, found the retainer (spring) BASIC PN - 1475. There is only a listing for 57 FORD and 58 FORD-BIRD.

Either the complete SERVICE PN was deleted from the 49/59 MPC or there may be another basic. The spring shown in the ILL on the previous post was from a 53 FORD I believe.

Will keep searching.

I thought the same thing. Then someone told me they stopped using clamps. Spring - mine has a spring. Go to the hardware store and pick something out. Measure the span first, and apply a little common sense, and you will be fine. Spring on mine for years, and it's just fine. Gene (Cols., OH)
