Re: Gas prices
I hear that car lots are over stocked with economy cars now because with the lower prices, people want bigger cars. How stupid can one be to think it will stay low. I saw this in the 70's when gas went up and was "scarce" friends were trading in their guzzlers for small cars and again in a year or two, they were back in large cars again. I just stick with my F 150 through it all. I feel much safer that way.

Re: Gas prices
Back in 1969 I remember selling Quakerstate motor oil for .39qt it was our loss leader to get people into the store. The lowest price I gas I ever put in my car was 19.9 cents a gallon on sale in 1967.

Some clown in the E.U. recently stated that the U.S. needs to increase the gasoline tax a dollar a gallon. Like that would 'solve' anything, only would let gov-mint spend more on themselves and the low lifes who won't work Cecil/WV had the best response #61!! Can't go wrong with that idea! |

Re: Gas prices
Our friends the Saudis, by holding their cards, expect the that more costly methods of recovering oil in North America will fold-up. Then they can raise the limit with impunity!

Re: Gas prices
Couldn't be a ploy to put the whoa to the Keystone Pipeline could it?
Sure give them another dime...then watch the price go back up and the roads not touched. Maybe they could use the money to create a website for consumer input. Ya ever feel like your just a pawn on the chessboard of life? |

Re: Gas prices
Here's another angle on the numbers: In Wellington New Zealand a couple of months ago we were paying upwards of $2.20 a litre x 4 (USA gallon) = $8.80 NZ per gallon. Divide this by the exchange rate (0.75) = $11.73 US per gallon. At the moment fuel has dropped to around $1.70 per litre = $6.80 NZ or $9.10 US per gallon. We think it's still Christmas ...

Re: Gas prices
Bet you could lower the prices if you all fired the Royals who "live high on the hog" as we Yanks say.

Re: Gas prices
The Japanese manipulated the TV market years ago. At one time Japanese TVs were selling in the stores for LESS than the U.S. Companies could make them. Eventually the U.S. companies died. Once they were gone they were gone. Then the Japanese raised the prices. Oil is a little different..... the U.S. has more reserves than the Saudis and you can turn "off" the well. To turn it back on (once the price comes back up) is not as simple as just throwing a switch, but it can be done.... Once the TV makers closed up.... the tools, people, skills etc. were gone forever. Enjoy the low prices while you can. Hopefully the grip on the U.S. oil market by OPEC will never be as strong as it once was.
