Speaking of quick fixes to brakes, I know it’s not early Ford, but I had to laugh when I saw this one!

If you didn't share a photo of those twisted brake rods I would have never believed you... What a mess!

Love the way that car looks; the brake rods, not so much.

Until I recently purchased an old rust bucket 37, I had never seen this method of "adjusting" brakes. Apparently, it was legit.

They currently sell something that works with that principle at most auto parts stores that are used on emergency brake cables. It's a hell of a lot easier and cheaper than replacing the cable. I put one on a friends old Ranger pickup and it worked fine. Don't know about using them on the service brakes, though.

These remind me of a story I heard at the 1st service station I worked at. A customer came in and asked to borrow a hammer because he was having brake trouble. He crawled under the car for a few minutes and banged around then returned the hammer. He got in the and proceeded to drive away, he didn't stop until he was in the ditch across the street. When asked what happened he said "my brake line was leaking so I pounded it shut, I don't know why it didn't work, it worked fine the other 3 times I did it."

Seen that done before!
Pretty scary, but it might get you home. I’ll bet it’s in the Army field expedient manual
