Since the emergency brake is on the left side, it is an early to mid 28. What is the engine number? It should be below 400,000 if it is an early 28. That will tell you when the truck was manufactured, if it is the original engine.

I'm not sure it's wrong there are just a few things that point to early 1929.

It's worth $5001, so you did good. I think you did fine, and from what I can see in the pictures your cab metal looks excellent for being a big truck. Usually they get lots of dents. Most, if not all 28 trucks had wire spoke wheels, but they can be easily swapped. Show us the cowl lower lacing, so we can tell if it has the early or later style lip. Also the tank date would be helpful. The main thing is you have something you can drive right away and have fun with.

Hay tom im new to this but i was told due to having the emergency brake on the left instead of right it makes it a early 1928 and thats what the title says?

not bad at all for 5k. you got some scary looking wiring though... i hope you disconnect the battery when you park it at night.

the wire wheels were used into the early part of 29 as well untill the factory ran out. AA's got all the leftovers from the standard cars/trucks so a left hand emergency brake into 29 is not unheard of.

Value can be hard to pin down. An impulsive buyer (for lack of better term) probably won't care much beyond condition of the body and mechanicals and would be willing to pay one price. A person concerned about authenticity will want clarification on a lot of details and would be willing to pay more for a correct truck...and much less for one that isn't correct.

What's the engine number?

Is there a date stamped on the driver's side firewall/gas tank?

Get a copy of the Judging Standards & Restoration Guidelines and start to pick it apart to learn more about it. My extremely amateur opinion is that if the mechanicals are all in good order you got a deal at $5k.

It's better to be safe than sorry. I'm completely re-wiring my 29, necessary because there were no wires for the lights, horn, etc. After restoration the seller only did enough to get it running. As it was, the insulation from the ignition switch to the coil was a mess and I replaced it as well. Additionally I have put a disconnect switch on the negative battery terminal. While there are fewer buyers for AAs, I think you got a great buy. Have fun with it!
