On Moday 3/28 I participated on a movie shoot with my 36 Phaeton. The movie is "J Edgar" directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Supposed to be released in 2012.

My car was static, and just parked at the curb and judging by the camera angles may or may not appear in the final shots.

Highlight of the day was when Clint Eastwood came over and we had a conversation about the car. The way it was parked he could see in through the hood louvers and said "I see it has the original engine". Who would have thought he would know that???? He told me he once had a 46 Convertible 'but not as nice as yours'. Made me feel good about the encounter. He's very low key and soft-spoken.

Having your car in a movie entails lots of standing around - we were there for the entire day. The catering was excellent though.

The scene was shot at the George Washington Masonic Temple in Alexandria Va.

A 1932 Ford Roadster is shown quite a number of times in "A Criminal Is Born". This movie was made in 1938.

Did you see the movie "The Blob" with Steve McQueen. Has a 1940 Ford Coupe in it.
Also "Thunder Road" with Robert Mitchum has a 40 White Lightin rum runner then upgrades to shoebox 50 Ford.

1938 Ford Convertible Sedan

A very young Glenn Ford is trying to marry his pretty fiance in Blondie Plays Cupid (1940). He drives her to the Justice of the Peace in a beautiful 1938 Ford Convertible Sedan. His unreasonable future father in law steals the convert sedan and Glenn and his fiance have to drive back to the homestead in a Model T that will only start if the driver pretends like he is going to get out and use the crank. There are many good shots of this 1938 Convertible Sedan.

Hey guys, thanks for reminding me about Back to the Future. Great job!

Thanks.

I posted this in November, but I recently found this photo of the 1938 Convertible Sedan appearing in this movie. Beautiful car.

I found this on Fordbarn, under "OT Gee Bee" by jim TN.
It shows a bad thing happening to a nice 1934 Cabriolet. Let's hope this was all done with "movie magic".
It is from the movie, "The Rocketeer".

This week's V-8 Ford on Film:

Call Out the Marines (1941)

There are two pretty good chase scenes in this 75-minute movie. The first chase scene involves two very early model army jeeps. Some really wild driving with these two jeeps and four passengers each. Wow. The second chase scene comes at the end and involves a chase between a car and motorcycle/sidecar combo. The second chase was apparently filmed on location in Southern California--tons and tons of old cars in this one.

There are ten V-8 Fords at least and probably more. More than once I could see a scant hint of the 35-36 hard spare cover and the famous dip in the rear bumper, but these cars could not be positively identified and appeared too brief or were too blurry.

One 1936 Cabriolet had a weird after-market trim on the hood sides that consisted of three thick chrome bands, the first one beginning at the cowl at the top of the side panel and wrapped all the way around the to front of the grill, meeting at the center. Three of these were evenly spaced down the hood sides following the pattern outlined above. I could find no photos of this car on line; I will save the movie and attempt to photograph the car with a view to posting it on this thread in the future. Lots of Fords in this one and great views of So Cal in 1941. Sorry no photos with this one.
