We spend a lot of money and put in many hours in our cars so why mess around with a cheaper product. I like to save where I can but, I prefer rebuilding original 97's to save some money. Besides it is fun to do the work.

Some company always comes up with a cheeper product when sales are high on that type of product. It reminds me of the Tillotson carbs for the model As. They work OK till they get warped out of shape. You truely do get what you pay for and for those that eventually whine I have this really small violin I'll play for you.

I don't have any problems with either carb..The carbs in question are both made overseas .Is one better than the other ,I don't have the facts or data to form an opinion , only hear say . I like the looks of both carbs..I am sure both have had their shares of problems,as does any new product . There are two side to every story. Just because I said I was going to purchase the 9 super 7's ,alot of snide remarks were made about me not caring about safety and other things ,nothing could be further from the truth .I don't support any vendor or product or critize any person or product .Take care .

9SUPER7 CARBS CHINA . I really do not no anything good or bad about these carbs,but only would try one if max went out of business.Uncle Max,has been one of the best business dealing I have had, in the antique car hobby. The frist carb I sent to Max was a stromberg 40,Max rebuilt it,sent it back,I put it on with no adjustments,and have driven it 1700 miles with no problems.I sent Max two stromberg 97's, Max rebuilt them and sent them to my engine rebuilder,Walt Dupont,Walt put them on and one of the float pins leaked.Walt called Max,he told Walt how to cure it,or send the carb back,because his work is guarantee.Now the best part of this book I am writing, is the trust that Uncle Max put in me,Max,never sent his bill for almost two weeks after I and Walt received the carbs, and I respect him for that,in this day in age.

Ok i took off my speed way 97's bought a new set of strombergs. Not one bit of difference still runs rich. Looks like i threw way $1100.00 for nothing.

In order to help troubleshoot, folks here on the barn would need to know what year model and engine size you are running. Different engines need different jets. Choke types and air filter systems can also have an effect. Jet wrenches are available if a person wants to start changing. The cast iron base 97 will hold up a lot better to the continued torquing of carb base hardware than the aluminum base types will but a brand new carb should be pretty straight.

Not sure how you managed to spend that much for two new Stromberg 97's. If you put two on right out of the box they are probably not jetted correctly for a 2x2 setup. As was already mentioned, all the details on your engine would be good to know to figure out what may be wrong. Also, with several others here who are planning to purchase 9 super 7's anyway, perhaps you could work a deal with them to buy the ones you have now to recoupe some of your money.

speedway carbs are junk..

sounds like you needs someone who nows what they are doing set your carbs up. get ahold of uncle max give him your engine details and he can get you in the ballpark

I got mine from "Uncle Max" price was way cheaper then advertised elsewhere.I had then within a few days

If the new carbs have stock jetting they should be close enough so that only slight refinement will be required. If the engine "runs rich" how is that being determined? Are you seeing black smoke from exhaust system? Is everything else about the engine set up correctly? Especially the ignition.
