Default Re: Need Advice Floor Replacement & Top Chop

I have everything, except part of the floor, from the lead seam that's on top, back for the 3 window. The sedan is complete but needs floors and maybe sills.

I had thought that I should replace the floors/sills first but was told different by a "builder" in Vegas.

I am positive that I can convert the car to a stock 3 window. The chop does concern me.

I counted at least five on this board that said floors first and none for the top first. At least 2 of us have chopped a top before and both of us said floor first. Your common sense said floors first. Must have had a reason for thinking that. I guess you can define "builder" a lot of different ways.

I wish we could stop butchering pre-WWII Ford Cars.

Reminds of when Boyd Coddington, on his TV show, cut up a really straight 1936 Ford Coupe to make a fake Roadster out of it. Unbelievable. He died before I could catch up with him.

There is no need to cut up a straight 1936 Coupe in this day and age. The guy should find a 1936 Ford that has already been butchered or a hopeless orphan found in a field--use your skills to bring that back to life instead of destroying a good 1936 Ford Coupe. My 2 cents.

I have to agree with others here. Even though you are putting pieces together to make a 3W coupe, I would make the top the stock height. They look great unchopped.

Can anybody tell me if paul Bradley is better at shipping out floor pans than last year? I ordered one for my 36 5 window but he never shipped so I canceled the credit card payment. Or maybe someone else is as good. Guy

Never did like chopped tops. All Fords, Ch----, and Dodges should never be chopped. Ken

Talking Re: Need Advice Floor Replacement & Top Chop

After reading all of the replys and my own gut feeling the "builder" is full of crap. Have been thinking he wanted me to do this backwards or wanted me to have a pile of scrap metal.

The floor will be replaced first. The chop, not feeling like it is something that I can do properly. So I am going to leave the top at stock height

Have done a lot of measuring before I start the floor replacement. Starting to make templates and hopefully the bracing will be welded in by this weekend.
