Re: Starter Drive Cover
Is the engine in place, or is the pan removed?

They're a bastard to get out ... especially if you're trying to save it ..

Really? can't be too bad to remove, most oil pans I find have it missing, and I have to make from new.

Re: Starter Drive Cover
you get get them off if you're heavy handed but they're pressed in and then a rolled lip on the inside of the pan to hold it and trying to get it off without damaging it too much ..ohhh..

Re: Starter Drive Cover
I make an aluminum one in lathe when they are missing.
Sometimes trying to straighten them takes more time then making a new. |

Re: Starter Drive Cover
THANK YOU for explaining the use of the starter drive cover.
I do not have one and would now like to have one. I would be happy to pay for a starter drive cover and shipping to my Zip Code 95326. You can PM me if you wish to whomever has one for sale. Bruce in California |

Re: Starter Drive Cover
Go to local steel supplier and see if they can cut off a piece of steel tubing that will fit.
If you have access or know someone with a sheet metal rolling machine like used to common in high school metal shops, you could easily have one made. Any high schools with metal shops or vocational trade schools nearby? Give a donation after they make it. A/C duct work shops would definitely have a rolling machine. The roller looks like this: https://www.mscdirect.com/browse/tnp...SABEgJ6iPD_BwE |

Re: Starter Drive Cover
Made one some time ago for an 8BA cast bell out of hardware store 1/32" bare sheet stock.
The original is not pressed in, it is slip fit with the inner edge flared to secure. Rivets were used to serve the same purpose as the factory bead-stop.

Re: Starter Drive Cover
It may be easier to get a 3" cap for steel tubing like exhaust pipe. This could be welded on and will be stronger than the original.
