Default Gas tank shut off

I want to rebuild a shut off valve that had become almost impossible to operate. I ordered a rebuild kit from Bratton's that comes with a lead packing ring and some special sauce in a little container, but when I opened up my valve I don't see any lead packing. What I do see is a spring and a rubber or neoprene O ring. Is this how the repop valves are made now? I used some lapping compound on the brass valve and cleaned it out, so is there any thing I should put on the O ring to help it seal better? Thanks.

After lapping my valve I installed a new packing and greased every moving part. The valve then turned very easily, and I figured it would get harder with time, as the gas might wash away the grease. Well, it's still very easy to turn 20 years later.

Your neoprene seal must be the replacement that probably has been sold for quite a few years now. I'd think either seal would be fine.
