ID carburetor??
'52 Ford Customline EAB
Only ID on the carburetor I can find is "ford" on passenger side. So that being said I'm concern on how to set the float, and how to buy parts for the carb. Looks like someone tried to rebuild it before - I bought a rebuild kit from CarQuest and now afraid to use the power valve or the blue tip accelerate pump rod. I'm going to try 1 7/16 & 1 11/32 settings for now to see what happens.

There were two design EAB Holley carbs. They were near the same but one was set up for the Ford-O-Matic transmission with dashpot. I'll have to check my books for the settings but a good carburetor kit should have the settings in the spec sheet that comes with the kit.

Another thing that confuses me as the vacuum hose out the back of the carb goes to the fuel pump than another one comes out the other side of the pump to supply vacuum got the wipers. This is nothing like my '50.

It sounds like you have a dual action pump there. The dual action also contains a vacuum booster for the wiper motor to eliminate the slow wiper blues when you are pulling power. Mercury cars came with this pump in the earlier years but the Fords got them too eventually.
The late Holley AA-1 and 2100 are much the same as the old 94 but has the vacuum system for the 8BA type distributor advance mechanism. I don't have much info on settings but there may be some on the net. Here is a breakdown from the old manual project: http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/m...2100_2110.html The power valves should be correct if they are packaged in a kit made for the carburetor for the 52 & 53 Fords cars with the 239 V8. That is, unless you don't have the OEM carburetor. |

Are you sure the vacuum hose comes out of the carb or manifold? The hose from the manifold is ment to go to the bottom of the fuel pump, into the vacuum booster pump. The hose from the carb goes to the ignition.
I wouldn't use the blue tipped accelerator pump, in my experience they're no good, the stock leather one is best. The blue one is quite often a pump for the Holley 885 looks very similar, just not the correct length. Always test the power valve seals properly, useing the method above, I use gas in the test and leave it over night. Again very often the wrong power valve is supplied, if it's a small hole power valve, one of the power valve gaskets in the kit will often seal it, the one with the triangle hole normally. These power valves are closer to fitting than the big hole (high flow) valves, which need machining. You can turn the small hole type to make it fit using the stock round hole gasket. Daytona sell a kit with the correct parts. Martin. |

Dual action fuel pump - when checking the engine vacuum I probably should attach my gauge to the carburetor - not the connection for the wipers huh? Or is there no difference?
Also the metal tubes coming out of the fuel pump don't seem to very secured or very tight is this normal?

For checking engine vacuum.
Disconnect the pipe from the vacuum pump and fit your gauge to the end of the pipe that now just goes to the manifold. The vacuum port up the back of the carb to the ignition is different, and will not give you vacuum the numbers usefully for engine condition diagnostics. Pipes should be snugged up tight, like you would for a fuel line. Martin. |
