Default Things to do in Shipshewana In

I will be heading out from New Jersey to the membership meet in Indiana on Wed., coming home on Sunday, and was looking for some museums to visit. I will be traveling on Rt. 80. Thanks for any suggestions.

There is an auto museum right beside the Blue Gate Garden Inn. I spent a number of hours there, very good. There is also an antique market futher up the road. Lots to see.
Shipshewana is a great place to visit. Good food. Have fun. Jeff

The Studebaker National Museum in South Bend is well worth the visit. Be sure to visit all three levels.

I haven't been for several years, but I used to visit the large flee market in Shipshewana. I don't recall the day to go or if it's open more than one day a week.

Yes, Tom is right there is a huge flea market as well. You can get lost in there. We also drove to the Studebaker museum as well. There are 2 parts to the museum, meaning the Studebaker and a life style? Museum. We only did the Auto museum, as Tom stated, do all three floors. Worth the visit. Jeff

There is a travel trailer/motorhome museum on route 80 near Elkhart. Lots of neat old stuff going all the way back to the 20's through the present.

In the summer, at least, I would avoid Shipshewana on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays unless the flea market/auctions is what you're going there for. Traffic in this small town is unbelievable on those days. Otherwise, lots of interesting shops and, as has been said, great food. Just about everything is closed on Sundays. A fun place. Nearby Middlebury is also worth a visit. A huge Amish buffet there.

I got to the Studebaker museum today. Thanks for the info, it was a fantastic museum. Well worth the visit. I am going tomorrow to the Hudson museum for the MARC welcome dinner.

I hope they still have my dream car on display on the second floor.

This auto museum is the Hofstetler Hudson Collection museum. It is an amazing collection of over 140 Hudsons from 1909 until the end of production. You'll see one of each model and several, rare body styles. Certainly a worthwhile stop if you are in the area.

Well yesturday we went to the Auburn http://www.automobilemuseum.org/#home.html and National Auto and truck Museum http://natmus.org/ Today we went to see the V 8 Museum http://www.fordv8foundation.org/

Tom, I don't remember seeing that car, but there was so much to see I might have missed it. The people in charge of the meet did a great job putting together a few self guided tour instructions to get to the museums.
