The dozen I just removed today are 1/4" diameter, 20 threads per inch, 3/4" long with a flat washer on both sides and a lock washer under the hex nut.

This may be all wrong, but I think somewhere I read that these bolts were 12/24. It's a little smaller than 1/4"(about 7/32) and much harder to find, but if you're like me and try not to modify things any more than you have to, you'll like knowing this. HF (Or Edsel) liked this thread and used it in several places. Most notably to hold the hood pivot sockets on the cowl and radiator. All 3 of my cars had 10/32s in their place.

Taffrail, I believe you are right with the front splash shield. Mine (4) are 1/4 28 too. That is the splash shield under the radiator. I believe he is referring to the splash shields by the running boards and the screws/bolts that attach them to the back end of the fender. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Both ends on mine take a 1/2" wrench.

They might be 28 tpi, but I thought I counted ten threads in half an inch.
