Default Brake adjustment - frustration - RESOLVED

Whew! The brakes are now right. The original problem was that they wouldn't adjust for smooth braking... a sort of "Goldilocks" problem, they were either way too tight or way too loose, no "just right" setting. Reason? I disassembled and found everything was worn, sloppy, or not lubricated.


Sent the whole assemblies to Snyder's and Don, Jr. did a total rebuild, new everything except backing plates, etc. On remounting them I had a second problem... I could adjust the shoes tight (cw) but they wouldn't relax when I tried to back them off (ccw). Sent everything except the drums back to Don and he found a couple of the backing plate bores were corroded and wouldn't let the adjusting shafts 3135-600x800.jpg move freely. He re-worked the backing plates and now everything is snuff!


And I took the always helpful advice from y'all and adjusted all the rods and fittings, eliminated slack, and took care adjusting everything. The only step left is a final tweak after a few miles of letting the shoes settle in. A big thanks to the Barn bunch and a super nod to Don Snyder, Jr.

that is very nice, that you have had a positive experience. And also very good, that you are writing this in the forum.

It is very important for buyers to know which dealers are helpful and understand the technique!
