Default '35 wheel covers

Anyone have any pics of wheel covers on '35 wheels? I know Lyons made some, as did Stewart Warner. I have a set of SW covers that I bought several years ago at a swap meet. I had no idea SW made them! Apparently they also made them that looked like the '36 wheels too.

I have had 2 setS of the LYONS COVERS ONE OF WHICH CAME WITH MY 35 CONVERTIBLE SEDAN. I sold the first set at Hershey last year and the other set is for sale BUT only to someone who physically looks at them and knows what they are so I am not mis-repesenting them. They will be at Hershey this year as I am planning on going again. 35ford

I took a photo of a '32 Roadster with '35 wheel covers on it at this year's Pasadena Reliability Run.

I've seem some with rubber gaskets and mounting tabs. when you twist the cover the tabs lock onto the spokes, I was told they were Lyons Covers. I just looked at some at the LA Roadster Show that did not have mouuting tabs or a spot for the rubber gasket, I'm not sure how they attached? There were definitely different manufacturers.

There were some being reproduced that I saw for sale at the LA Roadster Show a few years ago.

Does anybody have an original Lyons advertisement for the '35 Ford covers? I have been looking for one for years. I figured they would have been sold in a Pep Boys Catalog or something like it.

Anyone else think the Lyon covers were styled after 36 LZ hubcaps? You know...make your 35 Ford look like a 36 Lincoln?

I have the same theory with 38 LZ caps and Hollywood Flippers...but that is a whole other topic.

I have several pieces of Lyon literature that I can copy if you want. Lyon advertised in Ford Field, a magazine sent to Ford Dealers. The covers are held in place by flat metal fingers that grip the wheels outer rim.

Don, can you post the info on the board?
The Lyons caps that I have grip onto the wheel center, not the rim. A real bugger to get back off too!

ive got a book called the ford dealerships by henry dominguez and there is quite a few pics of the inside of the dealer showrooms with lots of different types of wheel covers, never seen any of the ones displayed in the book, wonder where they all went?

i bought a set of the repro lyons caps from a guy on ebay, they were very well made, not sure how I am going to attach them though as there is no tabs to hold them onto the centre of the wheels, someone else mentioned they will/can be held on by the outside wheel trims. here is a link to the guys old auction, not sure he has any for sale just now though.

These are the ones that came on my Cabriolet. They are listed on the dealers invoice as "Set of Chrome Disc." @ $14.50.

Dave D,
I'll double that if they're for sale!

the ones that weemark posted are supposed to be copies of those chrome ones, but held on with trim rings instead of the inside clips.

I've never seen a chrome one up close though, and yours appear to still have a stainless band around the edge? Is this true?
In other words, they are the same as the painted ones, just chromed?

Zach,

To tell you the truth..I don't know! I pulled them off the car when I bought it because I like the look of the wire wheels better. I have them packed in a box in case I ever change my mind. If I get the chance I'll pull them out and take some better photos and let you know the answer.

Those chromed covers are pretty spiffy! Thanks for posting the pictures. Never ever sell them if you have proof they orignally came with the car.

There is a widely circulate video of a Ford dealer promo about the new 32 Fords. Towards the end is a tour of the shop area. There is a "customer" 32 3W with full covers on it. How rare would 18" covers be?

I'd never seen a set like it before either. They look cool - but I can't believe how heavy they are.

I have 1 that from memory is different to the above pictures and is intended for use on the spare wheel with the locking hub cap. I've got it ready to straighten a couple dings and then polish. Will post a picture when I get home in a couple weeks.

I've seen ads for these and they say they're for 33-34 wheels as well. Are they the same ones as the '35 wires or separate caps? I would really like to find a set for my '33 wheels.

An interesting option for the day. Put basically a hubcap over wire wheels!

Anybody have a line on info about 17" Lyon Caps or perhaps if the 16" units fit all 3 years?

Justin Baas from Hop Up makes Lyons and Brewster-style wheel covers for 16, 17 and 18 inch wheels. I picked up some last year, they're nicely-made parts.

Hi all hope I'm not flooding the page with this subject but was directed to this thread in hopes of finding info on the wheels in the pics.

The car has been in the family for over 70 years and still going strong!
Thanks in advance for any insight you may have.
