Default Fuel tank sealer

My 42 GPW fuel tank has started leaking around the seam. I used a kit back in 2008 to etch the tank and then seal. It has held up till now, but the ethanol has dissolved the sealer. I don't remember what kit I used back then. I'm looking at the KBS kit. any feedback would be appreciated or another suggestion to fixing the leak.

The POR kit I used 8 years ago has held up. I had reason to look inside the tank recently and everything still is in great shape.

Used the POR 25 years ago. Still going strong. Ethanol hasn't bothered it.

If the sealer has deteriorated you will probably have more trouble with bits of sealer detaching.

Mart, that is what I'm afraid of not getting all the old sealer out of the tank and it start turning loose.

I would consider looking around for a new tank. People who specialize in old Jeep parts may have them

I can get new reproduction tanks no problem, but they are not 100% exact duplicate of original. A new reproduction tank is very easy to spot as soon as you raise the seat cushion. I may have to go that route.

What do you think about me pouring MEK into the tank and let sit for several days? I was thinking of doing this and ordering a kit from Bill H. I really like the engine paint I got from him along with the paint for the frame.

Update:

I tried a new product to me Caswell Tank Sealer, and I'm very pleased with the results. Before the tank sealer arrived I put 2 gallons of vinegar in the tank for 48 hours, and then a gallon of paint & epoxy remover and let set for48 hours. It removed some of the old sealer, but not as much as I wanted. Put the tank on the tractor and put a handful of nuts and dry wall screws in while I mowed. This did more than anything else.

If I had of just waited on the sealer to arrive I did not need to do any of the above it goes right over rust and old tank sealer. I would definitely use this product again, but time will be the real test.

I sandblast the inside of harley/davidson tanks all the time, then we use por 15 kit to redo, have never had any problem. I also do this with all my restoration tanks-probably 20 tanks so far and again never had a problem
