Flat u-bolts
I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but I am lowering the front of my 47 coupe via the Speedways lowered crossmember. The u-bolts that originally came with were flat on top, but don't fit this crossmember because they taper. I'm having some clearance issues with my 351, and was wondering if there were any flat top u-bolts like this with a 2.75" ID without a taper like this???

Re: Flat u-bolts
Do a search online for square-U bolts and see if any look like they will work. They come in standard sizes. If you can't find a stand size that will work, you could heat up and flatten out a U-bolt or have one custom made.

Re: Flat u-bolts
they aren't quite perpendicular....so at the bottom where it's threaded the distance is greater then at the top.

Re: Flat u-bolts
You can't bend them to fit?

Re: Flat u-bolts
Sounds like they're too narrow at the top, so that ain't gonna work. DD |

Re: Flat u-bolts
Would depend on how much of a clearance issue there is, but if it is not much I would construct a quick form and drive the bolts over it to get the required fit. If a small amount it should be able to be cold hammered. If more than that, a little heat should do it.

Re: Flat u-bolts
Try Pete & Jake's. They offer u bolts made for repro cross members. I used the CE reproduction cross member in a number of 35-40 repro chassis and got my front clamps from them.
