motor install: max wt.
Is there any reason to not install the intake and exhaust manifold prior to installing the motor? My rigging consists of using a couple old spark plug bodies placed into the manifold. For that matter, can the starter be installed too? Thanks!

Re: motor install: max wt.
If it's easy to install with the engine in the car, I leave it off. The starter is is very close to the steering box/column so I leave it off too.

Re: motor install: max wt.
1. Good idea to leave the throttle linkage off rear of engine ... It only gets all bent up installing engine . Then it is a PIA to straighten it out later so that carburetor linkage works.
2. when you remove linkage bolts suggest a dab ( 1/2 the size of a pea is all that is needed) of silicone rubber on the edge of the two brass "U" shaped shims where the bolts go through the housing on bolts that hold throttle linkage ... otherwise the shims fall out and get lost. Shims go between flywheel housing and the block ... (not between bolt head and linkage). These shims make up for the 0.010 thickness of the gasket between block and flywheel housing and are needed for correct alignment of transmission. 3. Good idea to thread two bolts back into holes and leave them finger tight to hold shims in alignment before silicone is applied.. Last edited by Benson; 04-26-2017 at 07:19 PM.
