31 cc pickup... on the door latch the spring that operates the catch has a stirrup shaped section. when putting the latch in the door does this stirrup shaped spring sandwich between the latch assembly and the door frame or does it tuck inside the door frame?

It gets tucked inside the door frame.
Swing it out of the way when fitting the latch
