I indeed wish you well but I wonder why you would not include the carburetor, distributor and waterpump ? Curious !

Jordan:
The first paragraph of the original listing states that the engine was rebuilt by Taylor Made Motors, New Braunfels, TX. Good luck with the raffle and thanks for buying a ticket! Fred

Can't really answer your question - our tour chairman made the arrangements with Taylor Made Motors to rebuild the engine so don't know why it doesn't come with the distributor, carb, water pump or starter. Even without those items the retail value of the balanced inserted main bearing engine with a Snyder high compression head is $5,000 and is worth trying to win. The missing parts should be easily obtained if you are the lucky winner! Thanks, Fred

Re: Win a freshly rebuilt Model A engine with insert bearings
If you won a $5000 engine with a $5 ticket, you think you could come up with $800 to ship it to Washington?

Re: Win a freshly rebuilt Model A engine with insert bearings
Please excuse the ignorance, but does "one piece bearings" mean babbit?
Update: Sorry, I didn't pay attention to the title, but how are inserts one-piece? |

Re: Win a freshly rebuilt Model A engine with insert bearings
To answer your question, if you buy a ticket and win, the contest rules state "winner need not be present to win but must claim prize on or before July 1, 2013." That means it's your engine and on or before July 1 you have to pick it up or have it shipped to you.
I will personally be at the awards banquet that evening and if you are from out of state and need some time to arrange shipping or storage until you can drive here to pick it up, I will store it in my barn for a reasonable amount of time (couple of months if necessary). Don't know the cost of shipping but if you are lucky enough to win a $5,000 engine, I would think the additional cost for shipping or gas to come pick it up would be worth it - you've always wanted to visit Texas anyway, right? No, the engine has insert bearings instead of babbitt. I just got off the phone with the engine builder and what he meant by stating "one piece bearings" refers to the fact that most engine rebuilders who do inserted engines have historically used what he calls "old technology" meaning they use MG bearings that are not wide enough to fill the gap in the block and used two separate bearings on each half. He uses a single bearing on each half (obviously you can't have a one piece bearing that wraps around the crank). He pointed out another advantage in doing so in that the old technology resulted in a gap between the two bearings at the rear main; his single bearing fills the entire space resulting in no gap. Hope this answered your question. Thanks, Fred

I'll buy a couple of tickets. When I win it, I will have a great excuse for a Road Trip. :-)

http://www.texasmafc.com/2013/index.html Just click on the link for "Tour registration form" and fill it out. We'll see you in June. I was Tour Chairman the last two times our club hosted the Texas Tour and we have had as many as 550 Model A'ers show up to attend and some have driven their Model A from as far away as California and Georgia. It's always a fun event and this is a significant tour because it's the 50th Anniversary of our statewide tour. Thanks, Fred
