I have seen weld on ones at speedway etc
The 34 Columbia would be same track width as A, later ones wider
If you weld on one side of the axle tube it can become distorted, need to check if it is still straight--- even original ones should be checked
I am grafting A ends onto 46 type colombia using 33-34 axle shafts, haven't decided if am going to use 46 controls, or the 40 convertible top vacuum switch.

Someone used to make bolt-on perches, they could be reproduced easily. They bolted to the backing-plate bolts. I did as Kurt did and then converted to a cable-shift, works great!

I remember a post where someone cut off the spring hanger form a junk axle housing triming it to fit, and bolted to the rear end.....pretty simple
