automatic stop device
I just read that by 2022 all cars will have to have a device to avoid front end crashes like in most new cars. How will that work on model As.

Re: automatic stop device
This must be refering to all "new" cars. The cost to retrofit even modern cars with computer controlled ABS would be cost prohibitive.

Re: automatic stop device
I am sure it relates to cars that are manufacturered on or after that date. You can rest assured that it will not be retroactive. Wayne.

Re: automatic stop device
It should be exciting, the idiots will just follow closer counting on their cars to stop them. AND I am sure it will be easier to text.

Re: automatic stop device
I can see a computer box (signal generator) being added to older cars so the new ones won't drive over them. The new ones are talking to each other right now it's just a matter of going the next step. That's how the collision avoidance and automatic braking works. One cars senses the others computer system.

Re: automatic stop device
Might be a bit hard to work out when they are going to stop.
"... But autonomous models still surprise human drivers with their quick reflexes, coming to an abrupt halt, for example, when they sense a pedestrian near the edge of a sidewalk who might step into traffic.“These vehicles are either stopping in a situation or slowing down when a human driver might not,” said Brandon Schoettle, co-author of the Michigan study. “They’re a little faster to react, taking drivers behind them off guard.” " http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...ing-a-key-flaw and ... "It’s similar to the thorny ethical issues driverless car creators are wrestling with over how to program them to make life-or-death decisions in an accident. For example, should an autonomous vehicle sacrifice its occupant by swerving off a cliff to avoid killing a school bus full of children?" |

Re: automatic stop device
I'm sure these changes will be grandfathered. There is no way it can work on a Model A. The systems will be designed for 12 volts, negative earth. They also won't work on car with a manual transmission. Could be the death knell of manuals!

Re: automatic stop device
Before the .GOV folks got there wire wheels washed I think that Henry had this under control, if he would have painted it "anti collision orange" it would have been a great ideal
