Please ignore the previous message. I just realized there would be a lubrication problem. Daren

Stethoscope does not work. I have a noise that sounds like a lifter. I have adjusted the clearance's now three times per the procedure. They are all within specs. The noise is really loud when cold but almost goes away when warmed up...Almost.

How many miles on engine. What weight oil are you using.

I’m old school. If not new rebuild, I would add MMO to gas, STP to oil.

Model A engines can make different noises, doesn’t mean there is a problem.

The older I get, the more of the same problems. Enjoy.

Never tried to run an A or a B without the valve "side" cover, But I have run an A wiht a clear plexiglass cover. Kinda neat looking for about the first 2 minutes, than it gets so messy you cant seee anything. Until you stop the engine, the oil drains back into the pan, then you start it up and watch again. Twas an interesting experiment. kenp

You could with a plexiglass cover like Ken dit with an A engine, to insure oil still gets to the bearings.

Could be the cam gear coming apart. Take the side cover off and check it out. Or the spring that put tension on the cam is bad.
