Original Ford distributors are somewhat bullet proof, there has to be something else going one here. If your tired of frustration Pertronix is an interesting choice. Keep us posted, this may be interesting to a lot of folks.

I'm going to go at this in two approaches 1 try the petronix if necessary I will make a new mounting plate for it or modify the one they send if it is a fact they simply messed up the mounting plate and sensor location. 2) I'm going to put a dist with points back in the car if the above works. Maybe we all might learn something.

You mention you've had Skip do the distributor. Did he also do the coil?

Buck, I asked that question back in post #13 ... then deleted the question because Veeder, in post #11, said he was using a "remotely mounted coil."

I didn't want it to appear that I wasn't paying attention.

Now however, it's an excellent question ... as in, did he ever try a Skip-built original coil at any time?

Thanks for asking.

(I admire Veeder's persistence.)

I agree with Mike , dont run petronix on the helmets or six volt or positive ground . This isnt your fix ......

Update
Installed the Petronix Lobe sensor today car started right up then as things really heated up (card board in front of radiator) the engine started acting up. I will grant you I was pushing it a bit.....Here is where I wanted to shoot myself! I discovered the gas cap was not venting! So I went a bit further stock gas pump had a good amount of sediment in the body, and then comes the carburator. I did know the carburator was not perfect and still isn't but I don't believe the accelerator pump is work 100 %. No question the distributor was not doing well under heat but these other items especially the fuel tank not venting just complicated an already difficult situation with the distributor.
I could not believe the fundamental things I missed on this one!!!

I will update once I get a few parts ie: carburator rebuild kit, plugs and nay be fuel pump rebuild kit just to have.

More to follow

35,
We did have original resister bypassed whe we were running remote coils, but the oe I poured all the water on was a stock coil.

I am not saying the modern coils are bad, I am suggesting that the NAPA coils just don’t last long. I would not use another one, I’ve had too much trouble with them. A nd I like NAPA!

Well to admit, just today I replaced a faulty coil on a Early Ford that was a Cheap Echlin NAPA coil.. I think due to the under hood heat on these flatheads a Epoxy coil is the way to go not a oil filled..

Well I've resolved the issue and it was not just one problem and within a week give a snapshot of all the ugly details so others will learn from my mistakes.

FWIW I run a helmet dizzy rebuilt by 3rd Gen w/11A internals and a 12volt updated coil w/internal resistor, runs like a top. YMMV

I have the one off the car and may send of to TN if anything for an experts ooinion. We will see until then I'm admiring 4 dist housings on my bench two with 11A advances and two with 68 advances you have to love it

.6 with 6 volt = 10 amps
.6 with 12 = 20 amps

pertronix module goes into current limiting at aprox 8-8.5 amps cant run with .6 either way ......
,6 requires a special module .......

Why not add a resistor so the total resistance is about 1.5 ohms?

V = I X R

6/1.5 ohms = 4 amps
