Engine installation success!!!

Had some good luck getting the engine in today. Once we figured out that the rear axle was at 111 1/4" and we got it back to 112" everything went good..
The clamshell over the ujoint is fun little slice of heaven to install.. Never done it before. Filled the ujoint housing with CHG before we installed the engine.

The littlest things on these old fords can sometimes be the end of the project. Step back, breath, do what you have to but the gratification when it is all done is so self rewarding.

I was gonna ask what the hell CHG is but then it dawned on me...Corn Head Grease...man, I hate acronyms!

Great news on getting that powerplant locked down! Nowonly 1000 more things to do and you'll be on the road...I'm in the same boat right now. Chassis is all finished now I just need to start mounting the cab, bed, fenders, etc.

Available through your local John Deere dealer. Farmers use it to lubricate a part of the harvester known as the 'corn head'. It liquefies very easily and clings to the rotating parts, making it ideal to use in the clam-shell housing the universal joint.

If you think the clamshell was fun , imagine how much more with a complete
body in place.

Lookin' great! It's SUCH a feeling of accomplishment restoring one of these old cars. Just wait until you get her on the road again.

Also, I love the shape of '35 shifters with that double bend. Am I alone in this? They make the single-curved lever in my '36 look like like it got too hot and drooped!

I cannot even begin to imagine how much fun installing an engine and doing tohe clamshell with the body in place would be! And without a lift would be even more fun!
Just moved the chassis up to our other garage (closed GM garage no less where we have lifts to use. Had it at my house where there is heat in the garage. Too cost to heat the big one..

I knew someone would comment on the shifter! Made sure to get it in the pic... I like it also.

That's great news. Reading your post the other day sounded as if you were a bit disgusted. Glad to see you stuck with it after walking away and clearing your head. Little things like this are great for teaching us patience. Good job!

You should try it on a Model A that has been channeled 6" & the body was fit after the flat head & gearbox were installed in the chassis originally, I was the sorry bugger that took the engine & transmission out (&in) for the first time with the body in place... Let's just say it was a "character building" exercise...

I'm with you on the graceful shape of the '35 shifter. We put a '35 trans in our av8 thinking the shifter would have to be modified but it's a perfect match. Curls right over the seat like it was there all along.

You couldn't have made that fit any better if you tried! It's perfect ... unless you need a to bring a third passenger along, though the Model A's are so narrow that's probably not an option anyway.

It Looks great Chris. I just fired up a 41 engine today that I built after you picked up that one. It's fun to fire up a new engine. Walt
