No start
Hey guys. Just bought a 30 Roadster from my friends estate. Hasn’t ran in about 8 years. Points were shot so I replaced them. I get 6 volts on both side of the coil and both wingnuts on terminal box with ignition off. I get no voltage on point arm with ignition on and paper between the points. no spark from coil wire to distributor cap. I tried bypassing ignition switch which did nothing. Armored cable has continuity from ignition switch to distributor. I did just about everything in Les Andrews book. I’m stumped. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: No start
Did you remove the armored cable from the dist to check continuity and then tighten it too much after? Too tight can cause a short. Test the movable point with key on and points open. should show Hot with a test light. Then bridge to ground like the points were closing - should show small spark with coil wire throwing a spark. The stationary point must show as ground, hardly ever an issue. Check the pigtail wire under the lower plate. Look for short to ground, full time or when advancing the upper plate.

Re: No start
Thanks guys, it was the pigtail wire. It was grounding out under the upper plate. Fixed it and car started right up with a lot of junk coming out of the tailpipe.
