Default engine color question

Did any of the Mercury engines ever come from the factory with a gold painted block and black valve covers? If so what year and model? just trying to satisfy my own curiosity. Thanks, ---Jim

GOLD engine color, but no BL rockers covers I believe. The 55 MERC used two HP rating 292's. Let me go back on this.

You are trying to duplicate the looks of a 55/56 MERC install correct? I remember you acquired a set of cast alum MERCURY script rocker covers?

The color info at this website / link is incomplete and may have typos on some of their pages, but I'll share it anyway.

Kultulz, not really trying to replicate exactly, just some thing close. I will try and attach what I have done so far. this has been done for a year now. just trying to find time to swap out the engines. the block has been painted since this pic. and the eng. is complete ready to drop in. when I get time to take a current pic. I will post it here.

Below is a photo of a 54/55 -

1956 MERC used differing rocker cover colors to show HP Rating of the particular engine (312).

It's looking good Jim ...

The Mercury 410 in the 60s was like the Thunderbird 390 except it was backwards. Black engine with gold valve covers.
