Default Throttle and Choke Control Tension

The throttle and choke pulls on my '46 won't stay in position when I pull them out. The throttle more so that the choke. If I pull the throttle out to keep a fast idle when the engine is cold, the dad burned thing slides right back in! Any ideas/suggestions?

I've put new rubber grommets in and they hold enough tension to hold throttle and choke where I set them.

You of course know the following, but just a refresher here may be in order:
A fast idle when the engine is cold is not recommended. All engines needs to warm up quickly by means of giving it a light load. Just put it in gear and drive it gently. The hand throttle is basically there only because you haven't got three feet to operate foot controls when the engine is cold. The choke is the control to use, not to just raise the RPM, but to enrich the air/fuel mixture till the engine stops bucking and begins to run smoothly.

snap type clothes pins work well. I use them for Cruse Control. I have a lanyard on them for quick disconnect
