Default Ironstone Concours d' Elegance

The 19th annual Ironstone Concours d' Elegance was this past weekend.

Usually, there are anywhere from 10 to 20 model A's there. Model As even have their own class. This year, only 5 Model As entered the Model A class. The blue ribbon went to a recently restored, breathtaking 31 Victoria.

Mrs. S. and I entered our original, unrestored 29 Fordor in the unrestored class. We got the runner-up ribbon. Blue ribbon went to a stunning unrestored 41 Cadillac. Of course, the Model A guys all say the Model A should have won the unrestored class, but if you saw the other cars that were in the unrestored class, I was shocked to even come in second with the Model A.

Unlike the other cars in unrestored class, our Model A drove home under its own power!! I call that a WIN.

More pictures. They said about 350 cars in attendance. There were 3 Tuckers!

The 1932 Model B woodie took best of show. It was absolutely perfect.

I was only able to photograph one of the lawn areas. This is about 10% of the show.

More pictures.

Oh, forgot to mention.... Hemmings was there to get pictures of cars for their various calendars. The photographer was very interested in our 29 Fordor, and took dozens of pictures of it in various poses. Look for our original, unrestored Fordor in the Hemmings 2017 Model A calendar.

Nice show Paul. I may have to drive up next year and check it out. Think they will even let me in the gate?

If not, I will smuggle you in.

Barbara would feel right at home in the Model A class.

Thanks, Mitch!

The paint has about a gallon of wax on it to look like that. I spent hours upon hours cleaning all the micro cracks in the paint and sealing it with polymer so it looked andalusite blue again instead of flat black. The interior is all original too, but I did have to buy a repro rear carpet from L.B. because the original carpet was long gone before I got it. The most interesting part of this car's original interior is that there are no pockets on the doors.

The car just to the right of mine is a frame-off restored Chevy that the owner tried to pass off as unrestored. Nobody was fooled. You could still smell the paint! The chrome engine and alternator were dead giveaways, yet he chose to display it with the hood open like it was an A&W cruise night, and show off all the chrome. Nobody was amused.

The Ironsrone Concours IS first class, as you observed. They don't allow any hot rods, and the quality of the cars they get is second only to Pebble Beach. They do a real nice lunch for car owners on Saturday, and have wine tasting and a live big band playing 30's big band hits. Friday night is a big dinner with an auction, etc. It's all a giant fundraiser for 4-H and FFA.

The best part is Friday afternoon and early Saturday when all the cars arrive. They have a rule that all the cars must be driven to their spots, although they let a few specialty cars get dropped off the trailer right to the grass. The Tucker cars drove in, and sounded very unusual and smooth.

Around noon on Saturday, the race cars start their motors and make a lot of noise for a few minutes each. The brass era race cars always sound neat. The 70's CanAm cars are obnoxious.

Your car looks fantastic. That's the kind of car I'd like to find, a mint original, and a Fordor to boot. Those ground are beautiful, and I see they even had a good showing of Studebakers, with a 51 Starlight Coupe on the end. Having 3 Tuckers in one car show must be a first. I've only seen one at a time, and with only about 49 or 50 being built, getting 3 together at one show is rare.

I'd have thought your paint was new because it looks so good.
