Every EFV8 engine strut rod I have ever seen has a concave end that attaches to the X member portion of the frame adjacent to the U-joint, the engine end attaches through two holes, left/right in the bellhousing. The engine end has a shoulder made into the rod that should make contact with the block. There is no adjustment to the rods, all fasteners/bolts are made tight, early rods generally had cotter pins through the castle nut.

Having worked in the auto repair industry during the '40's/50's it was very common to see the engine strut rods missing from many vehicles.. Dealing with the rods added to the difficulty of installing an engine into a EFV8, therefore many "mechanics" eliminated them.
