Default Stromberg e-fire worth it?

I have read the comments on here regarding the new Stromberg e-fire distributor. Any other comments? Sounds like they can be adjusted/re-curved if need be. Is the quality there? I have heard both good & bad. Wondering if it would even be a alternative to a stock 2-bolt crab in that it is re-curvable or able to get more total advance? I probably wouldn't use it to replace a bone stock dist. on a stock engine, but what about in place of a Mallory or other non-vacuum adjustable (brake or advance). Yes, I have read Bubba's comments on these, but was wondering if anybody has worked on one of 'em yet?

Go ahead; buy it. You know you want to! Somebody has got to be the first one to experiment with new releases of speed equipment; it can be you this time!

Like tub man said just buy it ....
I have had a few of these in for what ever reason (mostly blown module based on incorrect coil ) i dont think i have bad mouthed the unit as it does fill a need for those wanting a electronic unit .
Just make sure you use a coil with some resistance in it , i suggest the Bosch Blue # 00012 and then no resistor is needed . for 12 volt apps etc.....
Hee a picture of the advance unit and it is very adjustable just using a couple allen bolts thru a hole in breaker plate .
In most case you may want less advance not more , the max is approx 11 degrees or 22 degrees engine.......
Note the springs are adjustable by bending the spring arm .
This unit is VERY adjustable !!!!!!

What would be the difference over the MSD unit, I have two of them one a ready to run and the other drives the 7al series IGN unit on the dragster, the ready to run unit is just in the drawer.

Lawrie
Lawrie , that would depend on which unit ya got and the time frame when msd sold it . MSD has used a couple variations for this unit , a mag pulse ( mallory parts) and points and maybe even a pertronixs . Could very well be ( in a MSD world) that mallory, holley etc made the unit . Could all be made if the truth was known by the same company ???????

Some of the pro comps are direct copies of the MSDs as well. Has same part etching inside the machined case ???????
