My MODEL A dog wants to help
"Bob", our Chocolate Lab used to ride everywhere with me in the Model A. Sadly, at 14 years of age, he is unable to accompany me anymore.
However, Bob has been selected as as top ten finalist in a reader's choice Pet Photo Contest of which part of the proceeds are donated to a animal rescue shelter of the winners choice. Bob has decided to donate ALL of the proceeds, should he win. If any "Barners" would like to help the cause, you would be able to vote for BOB at: http://www.torontopetdaily.com/2013/...rs-choice.html Much appreciated!! Glenn

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
There was a time I could lift our Plott Hound, Duke into the rumble seat of our roadster. Now that he is "mature" he much prefers the back seat of the town sedan.

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
I voted for Bob-Labs are great dogs.
To All: As a vet, please use a harness or special restraint when traveling with your dogs in the car! Even a sudden stop from 25mph can injure them and you really don't need a dog sized missile flying around your car in a crisis-or any other time. Bob's dad-if you have questions about what can be done to make a 14 yr old dog more comfortable, please PM me. |

Honey (yellow lab/rat terrier mix) and I voted for bob because he sorta looks like our old late friend and companion Bogey (Weimaraner) especially that great look in his eyes.

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
I don't want to sound like an ole grump, but in my opinion a dog, cat or any other animal does not belong in a car, it's bad enough with all the other nuts on the road just trying to get from point A to point B with out having an wreck.
Dogs and cat's not only shed hair but they also make you car smell bad, dogs esp. sometimes slobber, they cant help it, and you don't need your dog licking you in the face when your trying to drive, [it's a safety thing]. I don't dislike dogs or cats, but there is a place for them, on a farm, or in a large back yard, but not in a car. ever notice a dog in a car with the window down with it head hanging out of the window trying to get some fresh air ? ...tells me the animal does not want to be there. OK all you animal lovers, fire away,....It's JMHO.

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
Well you asked for it, Louis, Dog here! GEEZ! that's a BIG bucket of cold water you're throwin' on the fun stuff! Glad I'm not your dog Yes, I agree about dangerous stuff with dogs in cars, It's about DUMB folks that don't train us dogs to sit up & act right in cars! We can be trained to go GRRRR! when dummies try to open your hood & scratch your paint & discover your motor "SECRETS"!
I ain't REALLY mad at you though, Louis Buster T.

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
Most animals have a very good sense of smell, to take one for a ride, esp. in an
"A" model has got to be very un pleasant to a dog, even though I'm sure the intension is meant to be a fun trip to the animal. My model "A" is in very good shape, but it is 80 years old I can smell oil fumes, exh. fumes, gas fumes that come up thru. the floor boards and firewall, and all Model "A" have it. not good for a dog, I would think .

zzlegend, If your asking me,... NO!.. my wife prefers pwr. steering, pwr. brakes, air cond, elect. windows, elect. seats, elect. locks, and a GPS, and she thinks I'm stupid for driving around in a 80 year old car that could explode at any minute do to the fumes in the cockpit.......Can you believe that? ................

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
My old buddy Bard, as you can see loved eating Watermelon. When I called to him, lets go for a ride, he would run to the car door and jump up and down 3 to 4 times, all 4 feet off the ground, until I opened the door to let him in. He would sit in the passengers seat every time I took him with me. I some times thought he was almost human, riding down the road he would see something and his head would follow until we passed it, than forward again, or look over at Me.
Although Bard never got a ride in my finished Model A, he was with me out in the garage for 3 of the 4 years it took to build it, siting and sleeping on a throw rug, watching me. He went to Dogie Heaven a year ago last Dec, Inherited Kidney Disease. He always sits close to me when I am on this computer, late at night, I feel his presence, and I voted for Bob as Bard would have wanted me to. Last edited by Jazzjr; 03-23-2013 at 01:40 AM. Bob you got my vote. For the response from Louis, I always take my Harrier Hound with me. We have a special harness that attaches to the seat belt. She's just as safe as a person. As for any smell, well she smells alot better than a women loaded with perfume.

Here's an update. Currently, Bob has about 248 votes in the photo contest and is doing well. About 200 of those votes came from two local pet groups in my area. Just so Barners know how the "700 views" vs "actual votes" tabulate in FordBarn. Again, your support for the cause is much appreciated!

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
Hoarsewhispere, I just voted for your dog Bob, and I did not have to ask my wife , that brings his votes to 256, Bob is a shoe in, no doubt.
But I still think an "A" model is no place for a dog or any other animal. still JMO . Glen, which offends poor Bob the most, the smell of exh. fumes, oil fumes, or the smell of that cigar? ......just pulling your PAW . Bob is a nice looking dog.

"Your Model A?"
I guess you haven't figured out that any Labrador KNOWS that the car is theirs, and you are only tolerated as a chauffeur, and only because you have opposable thumbs.

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
I'm sure enjoying the amazing photos of your dogs and Model A's. Keep them coming!
Here's an update for the shelter fund-raising Photo Contest. Bob is still leading with 289 votes, but has slipped a bit from 30% of the total vote, to 25%. This thread has 1510 views as of this morning, so I am wondering if there are any more Barner's that would take a second to vote for Bob and help raise funds for (non-profit) animal shelters. They are over-whelmed with pets given up by their owners for one reason or another, and you know what happens to them if they do not get adopted. If you wish to vote for "Bob" and help these shelters, this is the link: http://www.torontopetdaily.com/2013/...rs-choice.html

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
If anyone wants to help Bob win and they have access to a second computer, they can post another vote because it will show a different IP address...voting more than once from the same computer will not register more than the initial vote.
Go Bob! |

These grueling campaigns can be rough on man and dog, I sure hope Bob is holding up alright under the intense pressure as the election draws to a close and can hang in there just a few more days!?

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
Things are getting intense on the voting page, some gal Julie is convinced that Bob is somehow cheating, based on her posted comments. I guess she can't accept the fact the Bob has a huge following because Bob has a cool and likeable owner and not a whinny...like Julie
Here’s what Julie has to say about Bob’s popularity and success in the polling: “I agree! Bob, definitely found a way to cheat. I've noticed each time another pet near him gets a vote, his goes up a few so he can be guaranteed the win. It's looking very obvious to me.” Can you imagine accusing a solid upright dog like Bob of cheating! |

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
LOL you guys are cracking me up.
However, I must confess something. I'm not Bob's owner. It's the other way around. As you can see, he makes me chauffeur HIM around.

We best not count our chickens ( or Bobs ) before they hatch. Complacency has no place in a contest ! Keep the pressure on til the last dog ( figure of speech ) is hung ! More votes Barners ! Al

Re: My MODEL A dog wants to help
It's OFFICIAL! We are just thrilled to be notified that our 14 year old "BOB" (a Model A Mascot), has won the Reader's Choice Photo Contest. We are grateful to the judges and to many people, especially Ford Barners, that supported "Bob" and voted.
"Bob" has had a bit of a rough week with issues due to his advanced age. But we are glad that he has found a way to help other animals in need. We have elected to transfer the $250 donation portion to Westies in Need, a Registered Not for Profit group that provides rescue, fostering, transport, medical attention and adoption services for surrendered, abused, abandoned, neglected, and/or homeless West Highland White Terriers. The remaining Winner's portion of $250 will also be donated to our local Animal Control and Adoption Centre. Way to go BOB and Ford Barners! You have have helped make this donation possible. Thank you!
