Dog bone shock links, lubricate?
When snugged down dry they don't want to swivel and it looks like the rubber ball would rip, so I was wondering ifn they should be lubricated when assembling them?

Re: Dog bone shock links, lubricate?
I would use Vaseline inside the rubber cups.

Re: Dog bone shock links, lubricate?
I just installed mine and put grease in them!! Is that not a good idea? Will it break down the rubber faster than vasoline?

Lube Synthetic Grease. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o02_s00 I wouldn't use a petroleum based grease. Bill, IF I can remember that far back, I think the RUBBER you are thinking of is actually "Latex??". Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 07-23-2015 at 05:27 PM. |

Re: Dog bone shock links, lubricate?
While you have those dog bones off, get rid of them and use the correct shock links where you can correctly tension the links to the perch ball and the shock arm ball. Makes a big difference. But, you didn't ask that......I just feel opinionated tonight.

I have a can of red rubber grease that I was thinking of using on the links, but wanted to ask first ifn they should be lubricated.

Re: Dog bone shock links, lubricate?
Ford changed to the dog bone style with rubber inserts in '32. They work great.
They don't need lubrication per se. But you might want to use a little dish soap to make it easier to work the rubber balls over the ends of the arms |

Use spray silicon on the rubber parts

Re: Dog bone shock links, lubricate?
I would be willing to bet that the change to "dog bones" was to reduce complexity and cost.
