Default Broke distributor.......

Yes you can install a early Ford 180 out and actually bolt it to the engine.

I have done a few helmets and they usually never get to the point of running as the ears break of trying to tighten them down.
This one came from a customer wondering what the hell has happened here. My answer was give me your address and i will ship you a replacement , if you promise to be more careful next time........Hopefully he will understand what he has done wrong?????

kinda reminds me of the Navy slogan "nothing is sailor proof, just get a bigger hammer!" or a longer wrench

Jim/Bubba, This is why you will be immediately recognized at the pearly gates/entrance to Gasoline Alley (as applies), and granted express entrance to the truck parking zone.

That is as bad as pulling up a gearbox with long bolts before the spigot is in.

What he did wrong was using a wrench to tighten the bolts.
You need to just start the bolts and jiggle the distributor
so it slides in on the bolts, move the rotor so the tang seats
in the slot and run the bolts in by hand. it would be good to
clean the bolts and try them first. At this point the distributor
is all the way in. Now tighten the bolts. If the distributor tang
is not all the way into the timing gear or out of alignment 180
degrees and you try to pull it in with a wrench the mounting
ear or ears will break off. G.M.

Good advise. When installing these I always go slow on the blots and wiggle the rotor as to make sure the tang is properly seated in the cam. Your best bet is to read, educate yourself and ask questions when in doubt before starting with something you are unfamiliar with.

I always use two temporary hand-tight studs to hold the gasket and to slip the distributor on. It is easy to line up the tang by turning the rotor and then install the permanent bolts. I used to dread this job and now it is no big issue.

I will - I promise !! I also wanted to comment about your response to me someplace where people would notice and highly recommend your services to all. I couldn't believe your response to replace the broken one and was overwhelmed with your "Customer Service". I had just left his web site with the intention of writing the same comment on there but there was no place to hang such so I came to the great ford barn to do it. Thank you so much.
