Default front dust cap removal...

Working on my front wheels and the T service book is brief about driving out the dust cap/seal assembly to get to the inner bearing.

I do not want to just grab a punch and drive it out as paragraph 732 and possibly damage something, any input on this task would be great.

It sounds like you are working on 26/27 wire wheel hubs. The cap has a rim around the outside that goes against the hub. If you gently work a thin screwdriver or putty knife in the joint the cap will come loose a bit, then drive it off as instructed. The worst case would be damage to the cap.

These are wood wheels that are off the vehicle and want to remove the 2841 dust cap seal assembly above the inner bearing, thanks.

OK, The wood wheel had a dust cap as shown. It simply presses in like a modern wheel seal. If you intend to replace it (a good idea) you can use a screw driver to pry it out from the spindle side. Otherwise a soft punch through the hub can push the bearing against the seal & pop it out
.
New modern style seals are about $5.50 each.

Thanks for the input and picture, Jack. That pictures gives a good side visual of the hubs innards, I will be careful.

My concern was driving on that bearing rearward and possibly slipping resulting in damage to the current bearing and race, but it seems driving the bearing out against the seal is how it's done, thanks.

39: Replace the seals with the modern style. Not only is it a smart thing to do it makes removal of the old ones SO much easier. Mainly because you won't give a a damn about what happens to them! Seriously, as mentioned above, use an old sharpened flat screw driver and knock it in at the seam between the seal and the hub. Angle the tip of the screw driver at the center of the hub and hammer it in then pry it up and out. This method will eliminate damaging the bearing which is obviously the more expensive part.
