Default Five buck wide five. Some times you get lucky.

Another swap meet find last week here in Wisconsin. Spotted a wide five with tire still on it,no major dings visible, all clips intact and seller said five bucks, how could I say no it still was holding air even though it was as bald as could be. Had time yesterday to remove tire and couldn't believe how nice it was inside of the rim area. The tire was was still firmly attached at rim so must of kept moisture out and all I can guess it was indoors as well. Around here at swaps wheels I see are usually very rusty from years sitting outdoors or from trailers so sometimes luck is on your side.

Nice wheel, I searched up here for wide fives and bought everyone I found(reasonably priced) but there were few nice ones. Then a buddy of mine picked up a 38 and decided to go with standard Ford bolt pattern wheels. So I got the set off his car, nicest wide fives I have seen. Now if anyone needs spares I've got a shed full!

I think mounted wide fives are cool. I started looking for an extra set and ended up with 10 extra rims half of them in very good shape. Found one of my orginal rims had a bend in the centre so the spares are good.

Hope you didn't get rid of that tire, it still has a couple of hundred miles left on the fabric. Goober Pile

What year is the wheel? The date it was manufactured is stamped on the rim.

Did look for a date stamp but haven't found it yet. Have seen them on other wheels so know it must be on it somewhere.

Here's a clue.......March date (3) on a 1940 (40) wheel, along with the wheel's size on a rare 1940 V8-60 wheel. DD

Gary, before you get a headache from looking, it has b in reported that at least some wheels never got stamped. The Ford wheels that are stamped have a script stamp and the date.

It has beautiful pie crust and no sidewall cracks. Can you imagine that beauty with some tread on 'er ? I bet I drove for ten years before I bought my first new 'store bought' tire.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, but in the top picture does it look like a peice is missing on the inside edge of the wheel?......MARK

I bought a "trailer axle" at a farm auction a cpl years ago for $8.00 all in. I got 3 wide 5s and 2 drums for the effort of loading it and strippin it apart. Sometimes you're the windshield instead of the bug...

I bought a trailer with the wide 5s because it had a clean Washington title. Manufacturer said 'homemade'. In my mind it was 60 bucks for the title, so the wheels and tires were free. Now I have 4 of 'em.....

I think the wide fives are a beautiful wheel. Height of Art Deco styling, I've got mine all fixed up with 36 hubcaps and ribbed trim rings, they look sharp. Tried to post a pic, but I was again foiled by technology, arghhhhhh!

Thanks Jim,
I don't know why I cant load pics, I even hooked up to a computer and tried, but still can't figure it out.
I can tear down and rebuild a 94 carburetor blindfolded, but computers vex me.
