Default checking a 1952 mercury auto transmission

Help please, i have a friend with a 1952 mercury, all stock, with an origonal automatic transmission. he asked me how to check the fluid level in the transmission. all i could find on line was these instructions from a Ford service manual. could anyone please tell me if these ford specific instructions also apply to the mercury? thank you... don

Checking Oil Level—Apply parking brake, place
transmission selector lever in *'N" position, run engine
at Idle speed for approximately four minutes.
With parking brake applied and engine running at
slow Idle, move selector lever to "P" (Parking) position.
When engine and transmission have reached
normal operating temperature, move selector lever
through all positions to assure fluid distribution
throughout transmission. Return selector lever to
"P" position. Raise hood, clean dirt from fluid level
cap, remove Indicator. Wipe indicator clean and Insert
In tube (make sure indicator Is pushed down all
the way). Remove Indicator and read level. Add
sufficient fluid to raise fluid level to full mark on
Indicator. Replace Indicator.

I would say that those instructions will work for most cars of most any make that have dipsticks for the transmission.

thats the way its done, but after running the car on a trip all you have to do is put trans in park and pull dipstick, wipe clean, reinstall and pull it and read the level
