Starter drive spring ?
I had my starter drive spring break on me this past weekend. I bought a new one today and I notice it has the coil on each ends different than the one I had. The spring on the left side of the picture is the one that was on my starter and the one on the right is the new one as you can see it is different the end coil is at a location or is this a new style.

Re: Starter drive spring ?
You apparently got a RH wound spring instead of a LH spring....
http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/F...er_1938-48.jpg We've got them if you can't get the correct one from that supplier.

Re: Starter drive spring ?
That I can't say....but the flathead V8 starter spring was the same from 1932-53.

Re: Starter drive spring ?
The Ford parts book shows the Model A the same as Model B and V8 except for the early 1928 Abell starter. I have seen these springs wound the wrong way for a Ford and assumed they were for another make of car but that is just an assumption I have made.

Re: Starter drive spring ?
I had a friend that bought a box of those at a swap meet years ago. I think they turned out to be for some ag applications, perhaps tractors.

Re: Starter drive spring ?
Interesting, I had the same experience while replacing a starter spring in a '31 Auburn. Had many NOS Ford springs, but all were wound opposite. Found a Cord starter laying around that had correct spring for Auburn. Don't remember orientation of ends. Just a thought.
