'33 vs '34 passenger bumpers
I may be wrong; but I remember that the center bumper hole spacing was different between '33 & '34; but I can't find a reference as to the measurements. Trying to figure which bumpers we have.

22" for '33 and 26" for '34.

Thank you, David. '34's as suspected.

Re: '33 vs '34 passenger bumpers
Ford Australia never changed to the wider 26" spaced holes in 1934, like the USA models, but continued on using the original 22" spaced 1933 Ford Bumpers for both years.

Tom, Yes, that is the one. Ford Australia never updated to the wider spaced centres like they did in the USA. I also notice that the owner does not have the Spare Wheel mounted correctly? The Valve should be at the top. That way, water does not sit in the groove where the Valve protrudes. Also, when mounted correctly (as fitted in the factory when assembled) there is a drain hole on the inside that allows any water entering behind the hubcap to escape. It is amazing how many owners fit the Spares with the Valve positioned "anywhere". The same rule applies for Side Mounted Spare Wheels also. The Valves should always be mounted at the top. |

Re: '33 vs '34 passenger bumpers
Maybe the wheel is mounted correctly its just the car is on a lean?
Easy way to remember the spacings is 22" for 33's & 2'-2" for 34's. |

Re: '33 vs '34 passenger bumpers
Regarding that Spare Tyre, if you look closely at the back of this Australian Coupe, you will see that the Valve is located at where a 5 is on a Clock? It should be at the top, pointing down.

By comparison, take a look at this Australian 1933 Ford Coupe with Spare Wheel correctly mounted with the Valve at the top. |
