How do you remove and replace water pump pulleys?
How do you remove and replace flathead V8 water pump pulleys? Does it take special pullers? Thank you.

Re: How do you remove and replace water pump pulleys?
The pulleys, at least those I'm aware of, are pressed on. I use a 20 ton hydraulic press, but that much pressure isn't needed. As I recall, I supported the body and had room underneath for the impeller to pass through the support and shoved the shaft down and out of the pulley and body.
Hope that helps. |

Its a press job realy. What year pumps? Its quite easy to break the pullys or the pump body if you dont keep an eye on what your pressing on and what your suporting on. With the sealed bearing types (37-47 double belt sheve truck or 48 and up truck or 49 and up car) the oil type are very much safer to play with if you dont know what your doing.

Watched Skip pull two of mine. Put on a puller, applied a little heat and popped them right off.
