Coil selection advice
I have an 8BA, Mallory dual point 6V positive ground. Coil is just black no name.
After cleaning and replacing some contacts car is again starting OK. But I noticed the coil is apparently wired backwards with (-) coil to the distributor points. Reading previous posts says it will still work but not as good. Also that the coil gets shaped by this so you can't fix it by just switching the wiring. Does this make sense? Any suggestions on what to buy for a new coil |

Re: Coil selection advice
Napa makes a good 6 volt coil.
Yes once a coil has been ran in a incorrect polarity it is very weak when wired correctly based off resisidual mag charges on the center iron core...... |

Walt,
Carquest 52-1902 with internal resistor works quite well too, in my experience. Charlie ny |

Re: Coil selection advice
Thanks guys I got a IC7sb at the local NAPA, no carquest nearby, Its working good.
Middle aged guy at the counter first said "we haven't carried" 6V coils for many years". I asked him to look up 1950 Ford anyway, they had it. Its also the ware house for a bunch of area NAPA stores so they have a lot of stock. |

Napa around here is real good. They carry a lot of 6v stuff. Tractor supply even carries some 6v stuff. Lots of old tractors still around.
