Factory 1934 ford toolbox ?
I bought whats left of a 1934 ford. It came with this toolbox. Looks too nice for the average guy to have made it. The only factory toolboxes I've seen are the wooden ones. Is this from ford ?

Not a factory item. Sort of looks like the aftermarket Dunsford box, but then again it doesn't. Looks like it is well made, however.

Re: Factory 1934 ford toolbox ?
Chris - Do you know where I can find drawings or dimensions for this tool box? I have some 60 year old "seasoned" boards that I've saved for such a project. Thanks.

Re: Factory 1934 ford toolbox ?
Our Aussie 33/34 Fords had these. They were factory issue here.
I am sure that another Aussie Fordbarn member will able to help with pics, measurements and information for you. Cheers ..oz40 |

I'm sure one of the wood repop guys will have dimensions. I can take mine out and measure if needed but it will be a while before I can do that

Re: Factory 1934 ford toolbox ?
Forder, not sure where your toolbox was made but it is definitely not the one that was available here in Aust. I was lucky enough to borrow an original one from a mate and had one made by a local sheet metal fabricator. For quality like the one I got (photos included) probably about $600.00.
I believe Flathead Ted in NZ will also makes them. keith |

It was factory in coupes and roadsters (note the dimples for the mounting bolts). The interior side panels for the trunk had a little flap on the passenger side to access the tool box

It looks like the unauthorised accessory on page 5-39 0f the 34 book .The one that Keith shows is more ascetic and in keeping with the hood shape .

Re: Factory 1934 ford toolbox ?
I have posted a photo of the end of the 35 wood tool box below, the 34 box differs since it does not have the cut out for the rain trough drain (there may be other dimensional differences), see photo above for the 34 wood tool box.

Re: Factory 1934 ford toolbox ?
Forder, As Lawson said, the tool box looks like a Dunford box. It may be missing the covers on top however. Here is an original ad and photo of a 1934 Dunford box. Hope this helps.

Here is the interior flap, which accesses the rumble seat tool box.
This is on my early 1935 Cabriolet. It is very similar to the 1934. MiKE (mikeburch) CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE |

Re: Factory 1934 ford toolbox ?
Mike, That Hidden Tool Box sure is neat. Never seen any like it on any Australian Fords. They just settled for the Firewall mounted Tool Box, as shown above. |

Re: Factory 1934 ford toolbox ?
Compare this Tool Box, which was an Accessory for the 1935/1936 Fords in Australia. Notice the improvements. There are no flat surfaces like the earlier 1933/1934 Accessory Tool Boxes. Ribs have been added for extra strength. Ford Australia spent more time designing these improved under hood Tool Boxes. |
