Re: 1936 Rumble Seat Step Question
yes, agree that 3 windows did come with trunks or rumble seats, but did 5 windows come with rumble seats from the factory? Ever seen a factory photo of a 5 window with a rumble seat?

I believe this might be the answer to your question....

Re: 1936 Rumble Seat Step Question
Here's a few drawings of a 36 lower step bracket as well as a photo of a 36 bracket. Also a photo of a lower step bracket installed on a 35 std 5 window coupe. Hope this helps to clarify a few earlier questions.

No I can't say I have definitely, or can say otherwise. Would be interesting to know if all 5w were trunk only. I'd think yes they did also have rumbles but I don't know. |

Re: 1936 Rumble Seat Step Question
Just for your interest, on the Right Hand Drive 1936 Ford Roadsters and Coupes, the Step Pad was positioned higher than the Tail Light Stem. Check out this Australian built Roadster. You will also notice that the distance between the Rumble seat and the Roof is much shorter than on the USA Roadsters. On these Australian Roadsters, you can squeeze small passengers behind the front seat. |

Re: 1936 Rumble Seat Step Question
Since I change tail lights on my 34 to 39, I had to make a step from bumper. I bought rear step plate bracket #A-19405 and round step plate #A-19403-A from Gaslight Auto Parts in Urbana, Ohio...worked great made nice easy step from bumper to top of rear fender.

Re: 1936 Rumble Seat Step Question
This has been a very popular post but a lot of incorrect information has been posted. So lets document all that is correct. If you have a Deluxe 1936 Ford with rumble seat it will have a lower step that is threaded into the tail light stand. See my first photo from the parts book. The tail lamp stand has a threaded boss that is spot welded to the tail lamp stand from the underside. See my photos. The step which is correct for the 1936 Ford is part number 40-2454 and a NOS one is pictured in my photos. It has a 7/16"-20 straight thread on it. I am a machinist and was able to check it with a proper pitch gauge. This step threads directly into the boss on the stand. Now if you look at the underside of the step it has 4 ribs. So a special washer was supplied to make the step set level. Again see the drawing in the photo from the parts book. All info was taken from the pars book and NOS parts.

Re: 1936 Rumble Seat Step Question
Bill,
With respect, that's a good idea, but don't muddy the waters by listing erroneous part numbers for parts in your photos. The step pad (aka pedal pad) shown in your photos is not 40-2454, but rather it is B-2454. 40-2454 has 1/4" pipe threads, not the straight 7/16-20 threads that are on the B-2454 pad stud. Perhaps you are thinking of the '33-'34 rumble step pad which was B-2454 used along with the special washer shown in your photo as one of your photos is of a '33-34 tail lamp bracket with provision for the step pad. The '35-'39 rumble steps used the 40-2454 pedal pad and not the special washer used in '33-'34. Please see Don's engineering and assembly (SK) drawings. Re: 1936 Rumble Seat Step Question
Ah ha! Mystery solved. Thanks for the photos John and Don. Does anyone have one of these fender brackets they would be willing to part with?

Re: 1936 Rumble Seat Step Question
I can't say for sure I've seen a factory picture of a '35 5w coupe w/rumble seat, but here's a few pictures of my '35 standard 5w coupe that has a rumble seat, and as far as I know this is original, although a previous owner did add a right rear taillight.

Re: 1936 Rumble Seat Step Question
Here are a pair of 1936 Ford Roadsters. The Red one has an American body, while the Tan one has the Australian body. They both share the same location for the Step Pads. Note the different distances between the top and the Rumble Seat, as mentioned in my previous Post. |
