1939 Pick up interior mirror
Just picked up a '39 pickup and it doesn't have an interior mirror nor can I see where one mounted. Anyone have a photo or 2 of what the mirror looks like and how it mounts? Going to a swap meet at the end of the month and would like to have an idea of what to look for. Thanks.

Re: 1939 Pick up interior mirror
Pickups of the 30's did not have interior rear view mirrors. If yours did, you would find small dimple marks in the area over the windshield where the assembly person, or dealer was suppose to drill the holes for the mirror attachment.
So, if you want a interior rear view mirror, your best bet would try and adapt a passenger car mirror. |

Re: 1939 Pick up interior mirror
My 39 had an after market mirror. It was the usual Ford oval flush mounted with two sheet metal screws to the overhead valence. I replaced it with a larger mirror with an installed clock that I found at Hershey very cheap. I had to repair the clock.

Re: 1939 Pick up interior mirror
39 pickup trucks certainly did have interior mirrors. They are the oval type like the ones used in the passenger cars but have a slightly different mounting bracket. I dis-assembled three parts trucks from junkyards to build my 39 1/2 ton stakebed and they all had center mounted interior mirrors. It is true they are difficult to find. I think I still have one of the correct mirror brackets for a 39 truck. Hope this helps. Toby Lampert

Re: 1939 Pick up interior mirror
Thanks all for the info. I held the '40 p/u mirror I have and it looks like it will fit on the upper valence fairly well but I'll hold off on screwing it on until I check around at some swap meets to see if I can find an exact fit.
