Autolite 1100 replacement for 1964 170 I6
I have replaced the Auto Lite 1100 with what I am guessing is a off brand new E-Bay replacement and it is junk. It doesn't matter where the adj screw is it won't change and I can't get any reading on a vacuum gauge so...
My question is what is the best replacement for the Autolite? I'm not interested in changing to a 2 barrel, I like them stock as possible but I'm done with the 1100. This is in a 1964 Falcon. Thanks, j |

Your better off getting a rebuilt from an auto parts store that has a guarantee. There is a lot of new reproduction junk coming out of China for just about any part under the hood. If you still have the original, I can rebuild it for you if interested. There is nothing wrong with an Autolite 1100 carb.

Re: Autolite 1100 replacement for 1964 170 I6
I had bought a autolite 2100 carb.off ebay and that carb. never worked right. It sure looked like it was made in china. I still have my origional 2100 and I tried to put a kit in it and it works ok,the only problem is that every morning I have to pump the gas about 10 times before it starts. On ce it starts one time, its ok the rest of the day.
Sal,are u able to rebuild this 2100 carb.? Thanks. |

I've rebuilt so many Holley 1904's, I can do it in my sleep in less than 15 minutes. It's those Holley 4-bbl T-pot monsters that scare me! |

Hi, If it's hard starting, but runs well after it warms up, then it may be that the choke isn't closed enough. Or the heat riser valve is stuck wide open. I have done countless 2100 Autolite/Motorcraft carbs, and no problem doing yours if you want. If interested, send me a PM and we can discuss, or an email to: [email protected] Sal |

I don't have experience with any of the rebuilt or new carbs available at part stores or EBAY, since I always do my own. If EBAY, I would lean towards a refurbished one, and not a new one. Based on the prices, the new ones must be from China. Just look at the seller's positive feedback rating to be more confident. Sal |

Re: Autolite 1100 replacement for 1964 170 I6
I agree that the Autolite 1100 is a good carb. If I recall they used to have a problem with the accelerator pump circuit. When you went through them there was a plug you had to remove to clean out the circuit to operate correctly. Car will definitely have a flat spot when taking off if it's plugged. Another thing on those cars is the Load-o-matic distributors. Make sure the vacuum advance is working. If it's not working the engine won't generate enough power to pull the hat off your head.
