Default Frame ID

I picked up a rolling chassis in extreemly good shape. It looks like a 35 to 40 but I would like to pin it down a little closer. The serial number is *5300974* . Can anyone decipher this number? Appreciate all the help. Joe

Hi Joe-
I have a document here that my dad got working at Ford many years ago. It's dated 1947 and shows that the 5 millionth V8 was built on 5-5-1938 and the 6 millionth on 5-1-1939. If we extrapolate between these two numbers, your frame is likely a '38 built sometime in the fall.
Hope this helps.
Bill

According to VanPelt it's a 40 frame assuming that it has an 18 in front at least on the very forward number in front of the firewall.I think the two numbers under the body don't have the 18 but still have the stars.Correct me if I'm wrong.

The number looks like a 1940. Does the chassis have a sway bar on the front? 1940 was the first year for this.

Not sure about the sway bar. Will check when I get back to the shop. Appreciate everyones responses. The number I read came from the aft portion at the hump for the rear end. It was the easiest to see. Will check the foreward one to see if the "18" is present. Thanks again, Joe
