AA truck 4 speed question.
A friend is restoring a WW2 Ford of Canada bren gun carrier . It is fitted with the Warner 4 speed same as the AA truck . He is missing the shifter but has the tower . He will have to modify a shifter as it is remotely operated . I do have the bottom half of a shifter( which had been cut) out of a spares 4 speed but the slot in the half ball is 90 degrees offset from the regular slot which is at 9 oclock .This cut shifter would only work in a tower where the pin hole is at 6 oclock . The mystery is that the tower it came out of is the regular 9 o clock style so how it selected gears is a mystery as it would have been 90 degrees misaligned . The question is are there two types of tower pin holes ,9 o clock and 6 o clock ???

Re: AA truck 4 speed question.
Is it possible somebody bent the shifter for a special application?

John
There are two types of shifters. One where the ball is part of the shifter (later) and one where the ball is a separate piece and is pinned to the shifter. You may have the pinned type where the ball has sheared the pin and rotated.

Re: AA truck 4 speed question.
It looks like the shifter comes straight up out of the transmission.

Re: AA truck 4 speed question.
Thank you Bill you hit the nail on the head .I do have a late type and the earlier and you can plainly see the late style is "one piece" . The transmission that shifter came out of showed very little wear and probably got taken out of service when the ball pin sheared . I have already mailed the cut shifter to the man and will tell him to try to revolve the ball back to where it should be . It is very rusty so no doubt frozen so a lot of heat will be required no doubt . Thanks again mystery solved !!!
