Rear Spring Perch Repair
Greetings from California.
I'm wanting to repair both rear spring perches on my '29 CCPU. Asking for advise on best/easiest way to remove from pickup in order to deliver to the shop. I have Les Andrew's Handbook, vol. 1. After removing Tires & Backing Plates, should I: 1. Disconnect torque tube at Banjo; deliver entire axle or 2. Remove each axle housing; deliver just housings or 3. Other Thanks in advance for your advice. |

#1 unless you want to redo your rear.

Re: Rear Spring Perch Repair
If you are planning to rebuild rear end, then you could take it apart. If not then take off backing plates and take entire axle. Are the perch holes too worn to repair by new bushings?

John has a good point. Are your perches really shot or can you just re bush them? That would be a lot easier.

Re: Rear Spring Perch Repair
leave the torque tube bolted the rear end. if you take the rear whole to someone who knows what they are doing. it is not a big deal to repair them.

Re: Rear Spring Perch Repair
#3 leave the wheels on, you can then roll the axle around! A lot easier than picking up a complete reared :-)

Re: Rear Spring Perch Repair
If the bushings are just worn and perches good get a spring spreader and disconnect shackles, bushings can be pressed out with a bolt washers and a piece of pipe.Use extreme caution when using spreader, spring can be lethal!
