Cylinder head marking
My head has a diamond logo or marking between the 3 and 4 cylinders, what the heck does this mean?
Thanks |

Re: Cylinder head marking
Castings were made under contract by different foundries after model a production ended.A number of different foundry marks have been identified, the 'diamond' mark is highly prized with engine blocks. Are there any other markings? Ford script is another indicator of a service head (heads produced for service after 1931) .The one in the picture shows a 1936 service head I have..its a high quality casting, clearly better than a production head. The L286 casting mark above the water pump boss indicates it was cast 12/28/36

Re: Cylinder head marking
On one of my heads there is a Ford script around cyl 3 and at the water pump there is B117. On the other head, I took a picture of the triangle above cly 3 but I don't know how to post it here.

Re: Cylinder head marking
Quote:
B117 B = month of casting 11 = 11th day of month 7 = year of casting, presumably the 30's,so 1937 there were a number of foundaries casting for ford, all kinds of marks, triangle, diamond MHC and an assortment of others.I bet that B117 head appears to be a nice one. |

Re: Cylinder head marking
I've got a fresh one sitting in the garage, it came off a Gleaner, it's a 1937 Rouge production.

Re: Cylinder head marking
The number on the top front of the (used) head that I just installed reads 92447. Would that be September 24 1947?
